As we strolled down the Manufacturer’s Midway during the 2026 Hot Rod Power Tour, it was no secret what the folks from Mahle Motorsport were bringing to the table.

And we mean that literally:

No doubt about it, Mahle really wants engine builders to know about its ever-expanding line of piston head designs and applications.

That’s because, not long ago, you had very few options when it came to selecting your pistons.

Sure, there were a handful of options for the SBC and BBC, and maybe even a nice assortment of pistons for the Ford Windsor or Mopar LA. Outside of that, you had very little deviation from the pistons your engine originally came with. The only alternative was to submit a custom order and hope that the manufacturer would oblige—a scenario that often stressed both your budget and your timeline.

Nowadays though, Mahle Motorsport is changing that dynamic with its massive array of piston choices.

For starters, the bread-and-butter SBF, LS, SBC, and BBC applications are well represented, but Mahle has recently added plenty of other pistons for engines like the Gen. III Hemi, Coyote, Voodoo, Godzilla, GM Gen. V LT, and—heck—even air cooled VW engines.

And we’re not just talking about a single piston design here, in many cases Mahle Motorsport had a variety of configurations on display: domed, dished, Strokers with valve reliefs, and so on.

In other words, regardless of what your engine building goal is, there’s a good chance the Mahle folks have a piston for it—on the shelf, ready to go, with no long lag times for a custom order.
